How to write better blog headlines

You can write the best blog ever, but it's useless if you can't get anyone to read it. That's where headlines come in handy.

We've all seen countless bad headlines, scrolled right past them, and promptly forgot about them. Here's how you can avoid that happening to you.

1. Avoid passive language like "had," was," "were..." These weaken your headline and kill the impact. Ex. "My online course was purchased by 50 people." Blah, right? But if you change it to the active voice: 50 people purchased my course," then you have something.

2. Keep it short. Your headline should never take up more than two lines on the page. The shorter the better. It doesn't need to be a complete sentence either.

3. Use an impactful statistic or unique angle from your blog as the attention grabber for your headline.

4. NEVER write a clickbait headline. You know the ones I'm talking about. If your headline includes phrases like, "You won't believe," or promises vague but amazing results, it's clickbait. Delete it and start again. Otherwise, you'll turn readers off, and the ones who do click on your blog will likely feel shorted when you can't deliver on the WOW factor you promised. (I can give you lots of helpful advice, but I'm never going to BLOW YOUR FREAKIN' MIND with content tips. Be realistic.
