My top 5 contact page must-haves

Writing a website is no joke, and if you’re in the process of DIYing yours, I feel you. (I did the same!) It can feel like an overwhelming project at first- between crafting the perfect copy to make an impact on your target audience, translating the brand aesthetic in your head into a real website, making sure the backend works, and a million other things, it’s a big job. With all of those components to think about, your contact page can feel like an afterthought. What do you need other than a contact box, right?

If you’re here reading this, you probably already know there’s more magic to contact pages than that, so let’s talk about it. Without a thoughtfully designed contact page, all your hard work on the rest of your website will go to waste. Yikes, right? The whole point of your contact page is to make it EASY AS PIE to contact you—the fewer steps between browsing your website and reaching you, the better. If your potential client can’t get in touch with you within two or three clicks, you’ve lost them. They shouldn’t have to do any digging to find your contact information or to book a call with you. Most of the time, they’ll move on to someone else.

But not to worry- this is an easy fix. Here are six things I recommend including on your contact page so you can start getting those inquiries.

  1. A bookable scheduling link. This is non-negotiable for service providers. If you’re a business coach, a freelance writer, a graphic designer, or any other service-based business, the first step in landing a client is usually a consultation call. Instead of going back and forth in DMs on social media or making prospects chase you down, make it simple for people to grab their own spot on your calendar right from your contact page. I use a free Calendly plan for this, but there are tons of options available. Now, if someone wants to chat with me, they can book that consult right then and there. No waiting around for me to respond to an email and moving on to someone else in the meantime. The best part is that you can add intake questions to your scheduling widget. Then you can pre-qualify clients before getting on a call—no more wasted time. You can also include a Zoom or Google Meet invite or require their phone number for a call and send automatic reminders. You can’t beat that.

  2. Your business email address. This one seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people skip this step. Sometimes people don’t want to book a call with you but need to send you some files or a longer message. Make that easy by putting a professional email address on your contact page. If you’re worried about spam emails, you can spell it out like: hello [AT] moonhoneymedia [DOT] com.

  3. A contact box. Yes, I recommend having both an email address and a contact box. Give the people what they want. Maybe someone has a quick question before booking a call with you, and they don’t feel like opening their email right then. Can you blame them? That’s extra work. Include a handy contact box so they can type their note directly from your website. Make sure you require a way to contact them, like an email address or phone number. You can prevent spam emails from coming through your contact box by enabling reCAPTCHA through your website hosting service.

  4. Pricing info. Do you offer free or paid consultation calls? Do you offer $50 coaching calls through your scheduling link? Make sure people know before booking what the service will cost. Most will assume a consultation call is free, but you don’t want to surprise anyone with an unexpected charge.

  5. Social media links. If you have professional social media profiles, link to them on your contact page as well. Simple icons will do the trick. Include a line about what you offer on social media and invite visitors to follow you there too. This is a great way to build community and warm up cold leads. The more your helpful content shows up in their feed, the more comfortable they’ll become with you.

You don’t need to write a ton of copy for your contact page, but including these five things will make it easy for your audience to reach you. Eliminate as many hurdles as you can, and you’ll be golden.
